About the Author

Dr. Apollo Buregyeya is the founder and CEO of Eco Concrete Ltd, a Ugandan based construction company with interests in iron ore, natural pozzolana and kaolin mining, production of green cement and cement-based construction materials, civil engineering works and real estate development. Under his leadership, Eco Concrete Ltd plays a mantra of adapting modern knowledge and technologies on the African continent to produce strong, durable, and affordable engineering infrastructure while drawing less from the environment. He is also the founder of tofaliAfrica.com, a construction management and e-commerce software that adapts to the unique commerce narratives of Sub Saharan Africa. Dr. Apollo Buregyeya studied at Wits University, Johannesburg, South Africa, for his PhD in Civil Engineering Materials, and Makerere University, Kampala, Uganda, for his Master of Science in Civil Engineering and Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering degrees. He also attended Doctoral Schools on cement characterisation at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne, Switzerland, and at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e), the Netherlands. He has over 15 years of experience in working on various construction projects as a construction technologist, contract specialist, consultant, and project manager, both in Uganda and Bangladesh. Because of his training background, he has developed a deep understanding of cement and concrete materials, process technologies and development aspects that are fundamental to understanding and designing solutions towards a more sustainable infrastructure on the African continent.
